SHARK BITES - Shark Week 2017 Production Initiative

Applications closed 27 February 2017 at 5:00 PM

SHARK BITES is a joint production initiative by Discovery Networks and Screenwest to produce the next generation of Australian shark stories for  Shark Week 2017 – exclusive to Discovery Channel.

Through this initiative, Discovery Networks will commission up to five short factual stories 6-8 min duration that will be hosted online and repurposed as a 1-hour program for Shark Week 2017.

THE BRIEF: ‘A Celebration of Shark Week told in a new Australian voice’

The great Western Australian Coastline! It’s the epic Australian playground for sun, surf and … sharks! There is no better locale in the world that harbours the boundless depth of shark culture. And there is no content platform more synonymous with the world of sharks than Discovery Channel and its iconic Shark Week – Subscription Television’s longest running stunt.  By joining forces, we want to find the next wave of innovative and untold stories of Australian shark culture to premiere during Shark Week 2017.

WHAT WE WANT: Ideas that can work in the short form space. Submissions can focus on any aspect of Australian shark culture, ranging from the traditional to non-traditional. From the latest technology, to the pioneers and mavericks, to the impact on the local communities, to the unexpected. Tell us of a shark-centric story yet to be told!

High emphasis is placed on new ways of telling stories in the Shark space. So be bold, be unconventional, be extraordinary.

WHAT WE DON’T WANT: One-off or blue chip documentary concepts, long form series, overtly sensationalised shark stunts.

TIMEFRAME:
Applications close 5:00PM Monday, 27 February 2017
Commissioning – March 2017
Delivery – October 2017
Broadcast date – December 2017 (Shark Week)
