GET YOUR SHORTS ON! is Screenwest’s annual showcase of inspiring short films created by some of Western Australia’s most talented emerging filmmakers.

Screening as part of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, this year’s program explores how we look at identity, grief, responsibility, self-expression and relationships.

Screenwest Chief Executive Ian Booth said this year’s program demonstrated the maturity of Western Australia’s creative talent.

“WA’s emerging sector continues to grow and push forward” Booth said.

“Every year, WA’s emerging sector grows and pushes themselves, honing their craft on short films whilst working towards their goals for features and television.

“Short films are a unique medium that can make a story feel even greater and more impactful because of the restrictions of time.

“Shorts allow the filmmakers to experiment and provide a voice that otherwise may not be heard.”

GET YOUR SHORTS ON! will commence with a portrait of local street artist Steve Browne and the trials of staging a solo exhibition in MONSTERS AS FRIENDS, followed by the whimsical comedy I SAID NOTHING, the spirited search for identity in NOBODY’S CHILD, the neighbourhood politics of CRUMBS, the heart wrenching sorrow of WATCHDOG before concluding with a quirky twist in ADULT SCHOOL.

“You’ll laugh and maybe shed a tear, and you’ll certainly walk away excited about what is in store next for these very talented Western Australian filmmakers” Booth said.

“Screenwest is committed to supporting the emerging sector through the Elevate Short Form Initiative and other programs that nurture the future of the Western Australian screen industry.”

All GET YOUR SHORTS ON! films received funding support from either Screenwest, Lotterywest and the Film and Television Institute (FTI) and all were filmed in Western Australia.

GET YOUR SHORTS ON! screens Wednesday, 19 July at the Luna Palace Cinema in Leederville at 7pm.

Tickets are $19.00 ($15.50 concession).
